Qing Ming

I know, the date of this post says Sunday, but right now, it is actually Monday. Reason being: My damn internet. But apparently, it was due to the horrendous connection of Singtel. Or so my daddy says. Anyway, today was my last day at Cold Storage. Kinda glad yet sad. Glad I don't have to work. Sad due the sudden pause in the flow of $$$. =p

Anyway, today happens to be Qing Ming 清明节. The occasion where we pay our due respects to our deceased ancestors. Mine was my paternal grandfather. Well, I prefer to call him my granddaddy. He passed away before I could speak much. And if my memory is correct, I remember that during the rites of his funeral, I was dress in some Taoism outfit. I was just a little boy back then. *sighs*

A snap shot of the burning joss sticks

Oh well, the past shall remain where it it. But on a happier note, I woke up early and went to pay my respects. Glad that I did anyway =D.

My grams (his wife, duh!) cooked chicken, roast pork, steamed some paos and made rice balls. So as she was laying the offerings, I was helping to follow the incense paper. And I suddenly wondered: How many people know how to follow this?
That is when I thought to give a tutorial on how to fold this paper gold ingot. =D

Step 1: Fold a triangle on the left side and the same triangle on the right side but in the opposite direction.

Step 2: Next, turn the paper down (with the 2 open triangles facing down), fold the paper in half so that it becomes like the picture below.

Step 3: Fold one of the 2 triangles you see in the picture in half, and tuck in between the 'opening'. see below

Step 4: Fold up the 'opening'.

Step 5: Fold the other triangle in half and...

Step 6: ...tuck it in.

Step 7: At the base, open the bottom so it looks like this...

...and this. The complete paper gold ingot. =D

I think I made at least 30 of them and then my grams said it's okay, just burn the paper like that. Oh well, I hope my granddaddy knows my sincerity in folding them =).

Souffle

Today was my off day. And this week happens to be my last week working at Cold Storage. The new semester is arriving and before I know it, work (assignments) have managed to worm their way into my life. Just this afternoon, a massive bombshell was dropped upon me. To all AFSN students of TP, please check BlackBoard for further information regarding SIP and our new module Food Safety. Life can't get any better can it?

Anyway, I shall tell more about my fabulous off day. At 11pm yesterday, my internet 'crashed'. It took about 3 hours before I was able to go online again. And in those 3 hours, I did my long-forgotten spring cleaning. Once my connection was back, my eyes were glued to the screen. I actually slept at about 5 plus today. =D

Got up at about 2pm. Heated up some pratas (the frozen kind la and now is my fav!) and began munching. Suddenly, I was in a baking mood and off to make - SOUFFLE! (view picture)

I know I have been saying I am not a photographer, but looking at the picture, I think it speaks for itself =X. Anyway, the procedure is really simple. Ingredients consist of only 3 eggs, 1/2 cup of jam or conserve (apricot, peach but I used some berry jam from IKEA), lemon rind (I didn't use this simply because I was lazy =X) and 1tsp of ground cinnamon powder. Best of all, since jam/conserve is used, no extra sugar was added making this HEALTHY! =D
For the recipe, you can email me. Too lazy to type it out =D

For my lovely iced drink that accompanied this hot dessert was coffee but with a twist: Coffee with a tiny bit of Hennessey.

To make this drink, just make coffee as per usual BUT with a bit more creamer. Add in the alcohol and ... TA-DA! Extremely YUM! =DDD

I hope my pay (though really little) would arrive sooner than I think and then I can enjoy enjoy enjoy!

Beer?

Me, an alcoholic? Who are you trying to kid? Okay, so I think it is high time I face the truth. So I do occasionally drink at home...and at the pubs. That's all, I swear!

The choice of drinks usually revolves around red wine (I've yet to try white wine) and hard liquors (with mixers of cause). The only beer I tried and like is Kilkenny Draught Irish Beer. Creamy froth and bitterness are a good mix.

But as I was walking home, a van that drove passed me caught my attention - http://www.ibrew.com.sg

It definitely got me curious so I rushed home and entered the site to find out.

Print screens of the site. Seems interesting though but since it is a new site, I decided to find out more about how to brew. Scrolling and finding, I soon chance upon http://www.homebrewandbeer.com/ingredients.html

The ingredients needed for a normal brew are malted barley(or other malted grains), hops, yeast and water.

The procedures for how to brew are all listed there. If interested, take a peek and who knows what you might find =D

Forgetfulness

It has been a couple of days since I last updated. No time was the excuse. But, I was bestowed upon the same 24 hours as everyone else. How does that make me different? I shan't dwell on that as I might get carried away.

So, as most Singaporeans are off on their long holiday (Good Friday; probably to Thailand or Malaysia for a holiday), I am stuck in Singapore. Perhaps for a good reason. Daniel Chan celebrated his 19th birthday on Good Friday! Happy 19th birthday! Oh, I would like to add that the use of flour should perhaps be left only for baking =D.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After working for so long, I suddenly realised that this month, March, is coming to an end soon. Feelings and emotions come and go, but memory never leaves. However, being the muddle-head that I am, I often forget things. Like where did I place my keys or where did I put my wallet. Often I find myself searching for things which are right under my nose. Perhaps, things that were 'lost' should just remain lost, shouldn't it?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a lighter note, a joke that I receive through my email. Apologies to those who are not open-minded enough to read this.

The pastor
entered his donkey in a race and it won...The pastor was so pleased with the donkey that he entered it in the race again, and it won again.

The local paper read:
PASTOR'S ASS OUT FRONT.

The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the pastor not to enter the donkey in another race.

The next day, the local paper headline read:
BISHOP SCRATCHES PASTOR'S ASS.

This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the pastor to get rid of the donkey. The pastor decided to give it to a nun in a nearby convent.

The local paper, hearing of the news, posted the following headline the next day:
NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN.

The bishop fainted. He informed the nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey, so she sold it to a farmer for $10.

The next day the paper read:
NUN SELLS ASS FOR $10.

This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the nun to buy back the donkey and lead it to the plains where it could run wild.

The next day the headlines read:
NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE.

The bishop was buried the next day.

The moral of the story is "who gives a shit, it is funny" =DDD

Religious Joke =D

Yesterday's post was on something serious. Today, I shall post the part 2 of religion. =D

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic(absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law. (Gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed or some variant)

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no, souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there are more than one of these Religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion,we can project that all souls go to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Anna during my freshman year that, "It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over.

The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore,extinct...leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Anna kept shouting "Oh my God."

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A"
